Before and after

It has been hard to explain clients why it takes such a long time to "print" the potraits. Most people expect us photographers have a small room somewhere where a photo fairy makes everything ready in less than an hour. Time is needed for the photoshop treatment and getting those polished digital negatives to a carefully chosen lab and back.
These are two portraits that I polished for our national competition last year. You cannot imagine how long it took...I mean all the years of studying and getting experience before that.

Niskala family

SWPP&BPPA convention, Coventry 13.-15.01

I was one of the representatives of our Finnish Photographers Association in the Coventry Convention. The best part, of course, was meeting my Digitalweddingforum friends, Melanie from Ireland and Helen from London

I allways want to have my photo taken with DWF-benevolent dictator Jeff Caplan. He flew all the way from N.Y. to net-work with us European members

David A Willams from Oz became instantly a special guru for me, I attended his masters class and the other lecture as well

We had to have a picture of us (me, Gordon, Anna Kaleva -Tsagklas) before Gordon and his wife come to Finland

This is how we handle wedding photography from now on, Gordon McGowan from Scotland is coming to lecture us Finns in March. He became the Photographer of the Year in the Coventry Convention

David Guthrie is one of my original friends from DWF, I spent four days in Bradford watching him slaving with his work, making brides and grooms jump, walk, laugh and kiss:)

Birthdayglamour

Happy Birthday Boijan Björndahl!
Her photos were taken with the assistance of Kokkolan Turkis (minkcoats), Eila Helen (suits), Paulan Putiikki (casual wear) and Kultaseppä Niemi/Lapponia Jewellry and of course our unique hairdresser and stylist Marjo Ahola/Salon Marjo Ahola. You can imagine how many giggles we had with this and more...

Journalistic

Photographing for magazines and newspapers is a great way to meet exciting people. I did these in January for two of my favourite employers: Jyty-lehti and Martha-bladet. Anita and Carola (in front of Kokkola city map) were photographed because of their bi-lingual talents in their job. The artist Barbro Banck from Närpiö, Närpes is preparing to have a new exhibition, The light in her old wooden house is amazing even during our Finnish winter when we have only a few hours daylight per day.

Family photos - why?

What is the reason to have your family portrait taken? Onni Peltola's reason was he and his wife having been married for 40 years, can you believe. Markku Mikkola's family was documented because they're a missionary family going back to Bangkok Thailand after a few years in Finland. The unbelievable thing about families is creating the suitable form for the group, something that has rythm in it. Also distances look so much wider in photos than in reality, you have to hug your family tight

Commercial photography

My favourite optician, Näkömestari, needed photos for their brochure and Kokkolan Mokka-Nappa (suede and leather) & Asunto Björndahl needed photos for advertizing- cool and fun moments compared to just staying in the studio all the time!

Graduation pictures

Marika Korkia-Aho's and Annukka Rantakorpi's graduation photos still made it in time to the Spes Patriae -yearbook
